Kahoot PIN Not Working? Here's Why (and How to Fix It)
A Kahoot PIN not working almost always comes down to one of three things: a typo, a game that hasn't started yet, or a session that already ended. Here's how to tell which one you're dealing with, and what actually fixes it.
1. Double-Check the PIN
Kahoot PINs are numeric and easy to mistype, especially when read off a projector across a room. Re-enter it carefully — there's no letter/number confusion to worry about since it's digits only, but a single wrong digit will fail silently rather than suggest a correction.
2. The Game Hasn't Started Yet
If the host has created the session but not clicked "Start," the PIN may show as invalid or simply not load a game. Confirm with the host that they've actually launched the live session, not just opened the quiz for editing.
3. The Session Already Ended
A game PIN is tied to one specific live session. Once the host ends that game, the same PIN won't work again — even if you used it successfully five minutes earlier. If you're trying to rejoin after a game finished, ask the host for a fresh PIN from a new session.
How to Find the Correct PIN
There's no way to look up a Kahoot PIN independently — it's generated fresh each time a host starts a session and only exists on their shared screen. If you don't have it, the only fix is asking the host directly.

- Internet connection — Kahoot needs a stable connection to hold its live WebSocket link; spotty WiFi can look like a PIN problem
- Player cap or locked game — some hosts lock a session after it starts, which blocks new joins even with a valid PIN
- Browser extensions — an aggressive ad blocker or privacy extension can occasionally interfere with the connection; try an incognito window to rule this out
