Kahoot for Teachers: Getting Started
To use Kahoot as a teacher, create a free account at kahoot.com, verify the educator role, build or pick a quiz, then launch a live game and share the PIN with your class — students join instantly with no app or account.
Kahoot for teachers is built around one loop: create a quiz, run it live in class, and review the results. This guide covers the setup most teachers skip past in tutorials — verifying an educator account and actually reading the report afterward.
Setting Up an Educator Account
- Create a free account at kahoot.com using email, Google, Microsoft, or Clever sign-in.
- Select the teacher/educator role during setup, or update it later in account settings.
- Verify with a school email or by connecting a supported school platform — this unlocks education-specific features and reporting.
Building Your First Quiz
From the "Create" menu, start from a blank quiz, generate one with Kahoot's AI-assisted creator from a topic or uploaded document, or search the public library and duplicate an existing kahoot to edit. Mix question types — multiple choice for recall, polls for opinion checks, open-ended for short answers — rather than defaulting to all multiple choice.
Running a Live Classroom Game
From your dashboard, click "Play" on the quiz, choose classic (every student on their own device) or team mode (groups sharing one device), and share the generated PIN on your classroom display. Students join at kahoot.it in seconds — no software to install on school-managed devices.
Reading the Class Report
After the game ends, the host dashboard shows per-student scores, accuracy on each individual question, and average response time. The per-question breakdown is the most useful part for teaching — a question the whole class missed is a clear signal of what to re-teach, independent of any individual student's overall score.
